Violence in Ahmedabad

By Our Special Correspondent

AHMEDABAD NOV. 5. Police burst teargas shells to disperse stone-pelting mobs following clashes and arson in the labour-dominated Gomtipur locality in the old-city area here today.

The trouble started after a cycle shop owner refused to rent out a bicycle to a customer belonging to another community, who owed him money. The shopkeeper tried to push the customer out of the shop, when the latter fell down and was injured. People from both the communities then indulged in stone throwing, police said.
