By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI Nov. 5. A. Venkataraman, agricultural scientist, passed away here yesterday, after a brief illness. He was 73.

Born in 1929, Dr. Venkatraman is credited with popularisation of Aduthurai 27, a short-term cultivation paddy, which later became popular as Radio Nel (Radio paddy), in Thanjavur.

He completely reorganised the way Radio approached the issue of information dissemination, especially in the field of innovative agricultural technologies.
