Tamil Nadu
By Our Special Correspondent
The leaders will first confer with the AICC general secretary in-charge of Tamil Nadu, Ramesh Chennithala, on Wednesday. After finalising the list of 52 office-bearers, they are likely to have an audience with the AICC president, Sonia Gandhi, the next day. A formal announcement of the list is expected after the leaders meet her. The list is vital to both the president and the working president as the people on it will be in charge of crucial affairs of the party in the State. It will also indicate the signals the high command sends out - whether to give control of the party to the `soft' president or retain him as a titular head and let the Congress run by the AIADMK-baiter, Mr. Elangovan. Congress loyalists, already upset at the number of leadership positions occupied by the erstwhile TMC leaders, after the recent merger, hope that the high command would take into consideration their aspirations. ``We expect a fair deal,'' one leader said and added that in the merger, they virtually lost everything. ``The TMC men were given the posts of TNCC president, AICC secretary and the CLP leader,'' pointed out an MLA.
