Singh suffered from kidney ailment for the past two years. He battled for life quite some time before breathing his last this morning. Singh was one of the prominent players of early 60s. He was a member of the silver medal winning Indian hockey team at the Rome Olympics in 1960 and the 1962 Asian Games at Jakarta. He was also part of the gold medal winning team of 1964 at the Tokyo Olympics. Originally from Delhi, Singh played for all the leading clubs in Kolkata since 1963-64 and was one of the contemporary of Olympian Gurbux Singh, now the secretary of the Bengal Hockey Association. Since then Singh settled down at Kolkata and made it as his first home. He was employed with erstwhile Bengal Nagpur Railway (BNR) which was later renamed as South Eastern Railway. He retired as the sports officer of the SER. "Joginder was one of the finest right wingers I have ever seen in the past four decades,'' said Mr. Gurbux Singh, under whom Joginder Singh played. Joginder Singh coached the BNR hockey team in the local league and the all-India Beighton Cup tournament with great success. Our Special Correspondent
