The pulse rate of 360 seconds as against 180 seconds for Internet access calls will be applicable from 10.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. The hourly phone bill for usage during these hours will decline from Rs. 25 to Rs. 12.50. The decision was taken after the Communications Minister, Pramod Mahajan, exhorted them to do so to promote Internet usage. "I have asked them to reduce night time tariffs as far as internet access is concerned. The two companies would seek TRAI's permission to reduce the current charges by 50 per cent,'' he had said at a public function on October 23. The two State-run companies followed suit as soon as approval from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India was received.
