Gujarat
By Our Special Correspondent
While announcing the Gujarat elections, the Commission had requisitioned 400 companies of Central forces for free and fair polls. In a statement denying these reports as "totally misleading and baseless", the Home Ministry said it had already ordered the deployment of 200 companies of paramilitary forces from November 22 onwards as desired by the Commission."At no stage had the Home Ministry communicated to the Election Commission its inability to provide adequate number of paramilitary forces and other State armed forces for election duty in Gujarat as per requirements communicated by the Election Commission.''
