Special revision of electoral rolls begins today

Pondicherry Nov. 6. The Department of Elections will launch a special revision of electoral rolls with reference to January 1, 2003 as qualifying date in the Union Territory of Pondicherry tomorrow.

The Chief Electoral Officer of Pondicherry, B. Vijayan said in a press release today that the publication of draft rolls tomorrow would set in motion the revision exercise.Claims and objections could be filed between November 7 and 30 (both days inclusive).

The department has decided to hold special campaigns on November 9 and 10 and again on November 23 and 24.

The disposal of claims and objections, and preparation and printing of supplementary rolls have been slated for January 4 next and this would be followed by final publication of electoral rolls on January 6.

Mr. Vijayan said special attention would be paid to persons who were more than 80 years and finding entries in the current rolls.

There would be exhaustive physical verification of such voters to identify them.
