At 10.15 a.m., when Jennifer was alone, a 20-year-old youth came to the apartments asking for Fr. Kumar. The watchmen took the youth's signature in the logbook, and accompanied him to the pastor's flat on the ground floor. Jennifer opened the door, and called the youth inside. Thirty minutes later, he went away. At around 11 a.m., a maid came to work and rang the calling bell. When there was no response, she pushed open the door and entered the flat. She saw Jennifer's body on the bed, and informed the owner of the apartment, Lambert. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), Gopal B. Hosur, said that it was not a murder for gain, as nothing had been stolen from the flat.
