Gear up for early LS polls: Murali

By Our Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA Nov. 11. The KPCC president, K. Muraleedharan, has called upon the party functionaries in the district to gear up the party machinery to face an early election to the Lok Sabha in the event of the dissolution of the 13th Lok Sabha after the ensuing Gujarat elections.

Mr. Muraleedharan was inaugurating the Congress leadership camp organised by the District Congress Committee at Adoor Mar Thoma Youth Centre this forenoon. He alleged that the BJP-led Union Government was pursuing a negative attitude to non-NDA State Governments.

He said that the UDF Government had inherited a treasury that had been emptied by its predecessor LDF Government while assuming power 17 months ago and despite all odds it had succeeded in improving the State's financial position to a great extent through meticulous planning.

Mr. Muraleedharan said that the UDF was committed to implement its election manifesto in the next three-and-a-half years and the party workers had to play a crucial role in reaching the message of the Government's achievements to every doorstep in their respective mandalam or constituency.

The DCC president, K. Sivadasan Nair, presided the meeting. The former Union Minister, P.J. Kurien, Kodikkunnil Suresh, MP, the MLAs, K.K. Nair, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Adoor Prakash and Malethu Saraladevi, the AICC member, Peelipose Thomas, the KPCC general secretaries, Joseph Vazhakkan, Rajmohan Unnithan and N. Venugopal, the secretaries, K. Prathapan, Ajeeba M. Sahhib and N.K.Abdul Rahman, and the former Minister, Pandalam Sudhakaran, also addressed the inaugural function.

Aryadan Muhammmed, MLA, Pala K.M. Mathew, P.T. Thomas, MLA, the KPCC general secretary, Benny Behenan, and P.C. Chacko took classes on various topics today. The AICC general secretary, Vayalar Ravi, addressed the evening session.

The Cultural Affairs Minister, G. Karthikeyan, the Information Minister, M.M. Hassan, the AICC secretary, Ramesh Chennithala, and the KPCC vice-president, M.I. Shahnawas, will address the camp tomorrow.

The UDF convener, Oommen Chandy, will inaugurate the valedictory function tomorrow afternoon.

The KPCC general secretary, K.P. Kunjikkannan, the INTUC president, K. Sureshbabu, the Youth Congress president, Anil Kumar, the Women's Congress president, Shanimol Usman, and the KSU president, Vishnunath, will also address the function.
