The Government decision was taken on the basis of a complaint lodged with Sikander Bakht, Governor and Chancellor of the University, seeking further inquiry into the matter. The Syndicate meeting to be held on November 23 would discuss the issue. Based on the decision taken by the Syndicate, the University would present a report to the Government explaining its position, sources said. The Syndicate meeting held on October 5 had declined to initiate action against P.R.Wilson, Professor at SMS, for refusing to value answer sheets of examinations conducted by the University. The Syndicate has now been asked to clarify its position on the issue of teachers refusing to value answer sheets. The meeting to be held on October 23 is expected to take a decision on the report to be filed before the Government on this issue, sources said. The meeting would also be an occasion for the Syndicate to re-think on its earlier decision not to force teachers to value answer papers of external examinations conducted by the University. An item recommending action against the Professor was dropped from the agenda of the meeting held on October 5 following stiff opposition from a section of the Syndicate. The decision of the Syndicate had put in doubt action against a few teachers who had refused to value answer sheets. The Controller of Examinations had reported similar incidents in the University recently. The Syndicate decision had virtually nullified any further action on those teachers who refuse to value answer papers. The Controller of Examinations had earlier sent a note to the Registrar saying that Dr. Wilson had refused to value answer papers. Later, the Controller informed the University about the incident. Meanwhile, the Registrar of the University received the note with some corrections made on it. According to sources, attempts were made to delete the name of the Professor from the original note before it was taken up for discussion before the Syndicate. The Registrar later gave a strict missive to concerned University officials to present the original note for initiating further action on the issue. The original note was later submitted before the Syndicate at its meeting held on October 5. The Controller of Examinations had recently issued a notification inviting applications from experienced teachers for valuation of answer sheets. According to sources, the University faces a serious crunch of experienced and qualified teachers to value answer sheets of various external examinations. The University had recently issued a notification seeking applications from teachers with three years experience for the post of examiners.
