A Gulf-stream jet has left the Chicago airport and will reach Chennai around 11 a.m. tomorrow to fly the Commerce Minister, Murasoli Maran, for further treatment at a specialised hospital in Houston, U.S. According to highly-placed sources at the airport, the high-speed Lear jet belonging to Aero Care of West Chicago, Illinois, is equipped with basic medical facilities. It would be parked at the Chennai airport to be equipped with more facilities to meet the specific requirements of Mr. Maran during the long flight. The sources told The Hindu that the sleek pressurised jet would fly to Houston, after making a refuelling halt in Singapore, with seven passengers and three crew members. The passengers include four specialist doctors from Chennai. The flight is expected to depart either on Wednesday midnight or in the early hours of Thursday. Mr. Maran will be admitted to the Methodist Hospital and Research Institute in Houston. The Chennai airport authorities have received the formal authority of clearance from the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation for the special charter service to fly to Singapore from Chennai on Wednesday
