New Delhi
By Our Staff Reporter
According to the police, Kamaljeet Singh, a resident of Gurdaspur district in Punjab, complained to the Anti-Forgery Section of the EOW that Umesh Giri, a resident of Budh Vihar, Phase-II, had given him, and his two friends -- Gurdial Singh and Vishal Rai -- fake visas. A trap was laid near a DTC bus stand at Gole Market in New Delhi on November 8 and Umesh was arrested when he came to handover the passports and fake visas to Kamaljeet. At his instance, Louis Thomas (52), a dismissed lower level employee with the Air India, was arrested from his residence at M.S. Apartments, Kasturba Gandhi Marg. He, in turn, revealed the name of Umesh Gupta, a resident of Kanti Nagar in East Delhi, who was also arrested. Interrogation of the accused revealed that Louis was earlier arrested by the Customs officials for allegedly smuggling wristwatches and was dismissed from the job. Louis joined hands with Umesh, who has been involved in this racket for the past 20 years. He has been arrested in similar cases in 1981, 1991 and was absconding in a case registered against him at Lajpat Nagar police station last year. Umesh Gupta had been running a firm in the name of YAMA films from Karol Bagh and had also composed songs in several vernaculars. He is also a member of Western India Film Producers Association and has been indulging in illegal activities since long.
