Aditya, Ranjit share lead in Category A

BANGALORE Nov. 12. It was a day of keen competition in the opening round of Eagleton South India juniors and sub-juniors golf tournament.

Aditya Singh of Delhi Golf Club, New Delhi and Ranjit Singh of Royal Calcutta Golf Club, Kolkata had the day's best cards of one under 71 in the Category A (15 to 17 years).

There were tied scores in Category B also with Gaganjeet Bhullar and Ajeetesh Sandhu carding six over 78.

Category C had Rahul Bakshi (eight over) closely followed by Pritam Haridass (nine over).

Aditya, the 15 year-old X standard student of Vasant Valley School, has the distinction of being the youngest Indian to score a hole-in-one. Listed in the Limca Book of Records, Aditya acheived that feat when only seven years old at the Delhi Golf Club.

Aditya, who started his effort here with a birdie, did not play too well on the first nine ending up with bogeys on the sixth and eighth.

"I played much better on the back nine and had birdies on the 13th and 18th,'' said Aditya. "I will try to consolidate from here and improve over the next three days,'' he added.

Aditya had earlier finished second at the J.P Greens, the second leg of this IGU tournament.

Ranjit, who is presently ranked second in A category on the IGU merit list, had a mixed day on the opening round. His card had five birdies (2nd, 7th, 13th, 14th and 18th) and four bogeys (9th, 11th, 12th and 15th).

"I three putted thrice and had my rhythm broken between the ninth and 12th holes,'' said Ranjeet.

The 12th standard student of St. Xaviers, Kolkata has been in the top five in all the tournaments so far, with a runner-up spot at DLF and Golden Greens being his best efforts. He missed a couple of tournaments because of exams.

The top ranked in category A, Jaskirat Singh Dullet of Black Elephant Club, Patiala also had four birdies and five bogeys to be two strokes behind the joint leaders.

Rahul, competing in Category C (11-12 years), has so far finished fourth in the tournaments held so far. Rahul's best effort for the day came on the 18th hole where he scored a birdie. Rahul however had to stave off a stiff challenge from Bangalore's Pritam Haridass, whose card had a birdie on the 11th but was marred by two double bogeys (2nd and 10th).

The first day's field had 39 juniors and the second day will also have the Category D (Under-10) teeing off along with the other three groups.
