First woman member in Rly. Board

NEW DELHI Nov. 14. Ms. V. Viswanathan has taken over as the new Financial Commissioner in the Railway Board, becoming the first woman to be appointed Member of the Railway Board.

Belonging to the 1968 batch of the Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS), she was Additional Member (Finance) in the Board. During her long career with the Railways, Ms. Viswanathan has held several senior positions at divisional and zonal levels. She became the first woman Divisional Railway Manager when she served the Mysore Division between 1995 and 1997.
