Nigerian paper sacks author

LAGOS NOV.24. The Nigerian newspaper This Day today sacked Isioma Daniel, author of an article on the Miss World beauty contest which sparked violent unrest. The announcement came in the latest of a string of front-page apologies for the piece.

The death toll in the rioting between Muslims and Christians in the northern Nigerian city of Kaduna has risen to 215, Emmanuel Ijewere, a senior Red Cross official, said today.
