Top IAF post for woman

NEW DELHI NOV. 25. In a break from tradition, P. Bandopadhyaya today became the first woman officer to rise to the rank of Air Vice-Marshal as she took over as the Additional Director-General, Armed Forces Medical Services here today.

Ms. Bandopadhyaya has many firsts to her credit. She was the first woman officer to do the Defence Services Staff College course and to carry out research work at the Arctic as part of an Indian expedition in 1989-90. — PTI
