While Prof. Zinkernagel spoke on "Anti-viral Immunity and Vaccines'', this coming Thursday will see Prof. Robert Huber of the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry, Germany, deliver the Jagadis Chandra Bose Lecture on "Protiens and their Structures at the Interface of Chemistry, Physics and Biology''. A professor at the Institute of Experimental Immunology, University of Zurich, Prof Zinkernagel was awarded the Nobel Prize along with Peter C. Doherty for their research work on how the immune system recognises virus-infected cells. According to the study conducted by the duo, white blood cells or lymphocytes must recognise both the virus and certain self-molecule to kill the virus infected cells.
