The 17-year-old Karnataka boy fought back to wrap up a thrilling 15-11, 2-15, 17-15 win over second-seeded Bahiniman Borah of Assam in the 70-minute final. This was his maiden Junior national title and he dedicated it to his three academy coaches Prakash Padukone, Vimal Kumar and Vinod Kumar. In contrast, the girls final was a lop-sided affair with defending champion Krishna Deka Raja retaining the title with effortless ease with a clinical destruction of 12-year-old Saina Nehwal of Andhra Pradesh for a 11-0, 11-0 win in just 20 minutes. "Somehow I got stuck in a mental block after conceding a couple of negative points and never really recovered from that, was Saina's reaction to the loss. On the other hand, the 16-year-old Assam girl revelled in her trademark forehand smashes down the line and delicate drops. The combination of these powerful smashes and deadly net dribbles were just too much for the young Hyderabadi girl as Krishna Deka Raja retained her title without sweating much. In the boys' doubles final, there was an upset of sorts when Maharashtra pair of Amar Mohithe and Sagar Chopra toppled the top-seeded Vineeth Manuel and Sandip Louis 15-3, 15-5 with an all-round superiority. The Andhra Pradesh combination of Deepthi Shalini and Deepthi Priyadarshini picked their maiden junior national title with a 11-5, 11-9 win over their statemates T. Sowmya and B.Srilaxmi. The mixed doubles title went to Bahiniman Borah and Krishna Deka Raja of Assma who otuplayed Vineet Manuel and Nima Lakshmi of Kerala for a 11-1, 11-6 in just 20 minutes. Former All England champion, Pullela Gopi Chand, gave away the prizes. The results: (all finals): Boys: singles: Rohan Castelino (Ktk) bt Bahiniman Borah (Asm) 15-11, 2-15, 17-15; 3rd place: Anshuman Hazarika (Asm) bt T. Dinesh (AP) 9-15, 15-8, 15-7.
