Talking to mediapersons, Dr. Pillai, who is also the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the joint venture company, Brahmos, said the skill and capabilities of the unique technology had been tested in June. ``As the company was jointly formed by the Government of India and Russia, the market strategy for Brahmos had to be decided by these two countries, even as many nations had evinced keen interest to buy this technology", he said. A consortium of industries had been formed and assigned to carry out work on the missile.
He said Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) would be the future technology. For developing the enabling technology for smart materials and devices through a synergised effort, a five-year national programme had been initiated. Funded by the Centre, the programme was to address multiple applications in strategic and economic sectors, including aerospace, defence, civil engineering and bio-medical fields. Earlier, addressing a national symposium on "Instrumentation" at the Bharathiar University, Dr. Pillai said: " Miniaturisation in instrumentation would be the key to realising mega missions like the solar powered satellite and moon machines".
