Reservation policy set aside

Ranchi Nov. 27. In a setback to the Babulal Marandi Government, the Jharkhand High Court today set aside its reservation policy of preference to the tribals and long-settled outsiders in jobs but said a `local' could be preferred to a non-local for class III and IV jobs if both were of the same merit.

A five-judge constitutional Bench headed by the Chief Justice, V. K. Gupta, in a unanimous ruling asked the Government to ``redefine the local resident''. — PTI
