According to sources in the National Board of (Medical) Examinations, about 370 students appeared for the two-day test. The test has been introduced in the wake of complaints that the standard of education was falling in several medical institutions abroad, in particular in many countries which have been formed following the break-up of the Soviet Union. The Union Health Ministry had set in motion the process earlier this year with the issue of a notification. A group of students trained in some Russian institutions have been protesting the move claiming that it was discriminatory.
