This has come as a setback to the Karnataka Government's conciliatory efforts to secure the release of the former minister, H. Nagappa, from the forest brigand, Veerappan. Veerappan's deadline to send Mani for negotiations ends today. Mani was produced before the court on Friday and the judge directed the special public prosecutor to fulfil the formalities before the bail granted by the High Court could be executed. The process was completed today but there were two other cases, which came up for hearing this morning. The court rejected the special public prosecutor's plea to consider the bail application in view of the gravity of the offences following which the latter withdrew it and expressed his intention to apply for bail in the Mysore Sessions Court. The judge complied with the request before adjourning the case.
