Pak. warns India against `war-mongering'

ISLAMABAD Dec. 1. Islamabad today warned New Delhi against war mongering after the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, challenged Pakistan to drop its support for the Muslim insurgency in Kashmir or fight another war.

``No one in India should live under the illusion that a self-respecting nation like Pakistan can be cowed down by any amount of intimidation and coercion,'' the Pakistan Information Minister, Sheikh Rasheed, said.

``It is unfortunate that Mr. Advani has again started beating the war drums. He should be aware that although Pakistan does not want any conflict, it is fully prepared and has all the means and capabilities to give a crushing reply to any misadventure by India,'' Mr. Rasheed said.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Foreign Minister, Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri, has said India and Pakistan had gone to war thrice over Kashmir and the issue could only be resolved through talks or by maintaining status quo.

In an interview to a TV channel, he said the two countries do not want to go to war for the fourth time nor they can afford it.

"A solution will have to be found and the ball is now in India's court," he said.

On the prospects of the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee's visit to Pakistan to attend the SAARC summit, Mr. Kasuri said this decision could only be taken by India. AFP, UNI
