Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, is to be lauded for his plain-speaking about AIDS (Dec. 1). There were reports that one of the first condom vending machines in Hyderabad was stocked with expired condoms. Our people are not shy of sex but shy of buying condoms. To overcome this, automatic condom vending machines should be placed at gas stations especially on highways, bus stands and railway stations. Secondly it should be made mandatory that all government invitations, pamphlets, etc, must carry a small message on one of these issues AIDS, T.B., Cancer or cleanliness. TV channels and the Press must contribute to the education of the public. The campaign must be taken very seriously and not confined to December 1 alone. Act before it reaches epidemic proportions. Suresh P. Hyderabad
