Sir, The punishment for rape suggested by the Government should be buttressed by one and all instead of preventing implementation of the proposal. The rapist, knowing full well the repercussions will not end his life fearing the consequences. He will find the ways and means to deceive the laws using the ambiguity. Instead of giving political colour to the move political parties should help the Government make the suggestion to become a law. Enforcement of such an act definitely will not yield brimming success but curtail such unlawfulness to a great extent. S. Ganapathisubramanian, Chennai Sir, This is with reference to the article "Rape and Social Reform" (Nov. 30): The increase in the incidents of rape in the metropolitan cities has created a serious fear among the student community. It is the middle class which is affected to the core. Though death penalty for rapists has been advocated, it is the serious implementation that matters. B.Swapna Chennai
