'Malaysia should file appeal'

By Our Diplomatic Correspondent

NEW DELHI DEC. 2. India said today that it would be "normal" for Malaysia to seek a "stay" on a Kuala Lumpur session's judge order quashing extradition proceedings against Ottavio Quattrocchi, one of the accused in the Bofors pay-offs case.

A Foreign Office spokesman told presspersons that Malaysian authorities should also file an appeal against the court's verdict in the High Court. He said the order reflected a certain "misconception" because the Malaysian judge had thrown out the extradition proceedings on the ground that the charges in the case had not been "framed" by India.
