'AIDS figures exaggerated'

New Delhi Dec. 2 . The Centre today rejected the contentions of the U.S. Ambassador to India, Robert Blackwill, and the Microsoft chairman, Bill Gates, who, quoting a report of the U.S. intelligence agency, had recently said that by 2010 the number of HIV cases in India would be about 25 million.

``The threat of AIDS is not only serious, but deadly too. However, we do not accept the figures as quoted by Mr. Blackwill,'' the Health Minister, Shatrughan Sinha, said in reply to a question in Rajya Sabha.
