NEW DELHI Dec. 3. The Election Commission, which has taken note of the media reports on the distribution of CDs and T-shirts by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), highlighting and depicting the Godhra carnage pictures for propaganda purposes in the ensuing Assembly polls, today sent the Deputy Commissioner, A. N. Jha, to Gujarat for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation.

According to Commission sources, Mr. Jha will interact with the Chief Electoral Officer of Gujarat on the implementation of the model code of conduct and hold a meeting with senior civil and police officials to assess the preparedness of the State administration for the polls.The Commission is also believed to have asked the CEO to seize the T-shirts and Mr. Jha will ascertain whether the directive had been implemented.
