UTI Bill passed

NEW DELHI Dec. 3. The Unit Trust of India (Transfer of Undertaking and Repeal) Bill, 2002, providing for the bifurcation of the UTI, received Parliamentary approval with the Rajya Sabha passing it today by a voice vote amid a walkout by non-Congress Opposition parties.

Earlier, the Leader of the Opposition, Manmohan Singh, withdrew the Opposition-sponsored statutory resolution paving the way for the passing of the Bill. The Lok Sabha had passed the Bill last week.
