Bid on life of VHP leader

By Our Special Correspondent

AHMEDABAD Dec. 3. The Gujarat Vishwa Hindu Parishad general-secretary, Jaideep Patel, escaped an attempt on his life and has been admitted to a hospital with a bullet lodged in his throat.

Police said two youths on a motorcycle fired at Mr. Patel, who was travelling in his car, near a traffic junction in the crowded Naroda locality in the city this evening.

Neither police nor the VHP leaders had any other information about the incident or the identity of the assailants.

Mr. Patel's name had figured as one of the accused in the Naroda-Patiya massacre on February 28 and he, along with some other VHP leaders, had received threats.
