Younger crop to the fore in CPI

By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Dec. 6. Besides launching a campaign blitzkrieg against the UDF Government over alleged rise in lawlessness in the State and all-round decline in conditions of governance and living, the CPI appears to have decided to use the regional campaign jathas being held from December 7 to 15 as an opportunity to groom its young crop of leaders.

Details of jathas being taken out in four regions in the State suggest that the party elders have decided to step back and allow the younger crop to go through the grind.

The jathas are to be led by middle-level leaders of the party. The former Revenue Minister, K. E. Ismail, would lead the jatha that would cover Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. The AITUC State general secretary, C. Divakaran, would head the jatha that would cover Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram. The All-India Kisan Sabha State president, C. K. Chandrappan, would lead the jatha that would cover Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam districts and Prof. Meenakshi Thampan would head the jatha covering Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts.
