Sir, Following the mid-year economic review, media reports suggest that the Centre is inter alia proposing to abolish thousands of posts in various departments. Instead, why not make the existing voluntary retirement scheme more attractive so that more persons can seek retirement. As a one-time measure, the minimum length of service to opt for VRS may be brought down to 17 or 18 years with the additional weightage of 10 years against the existing five years. R. Mohan, New Delhi
