Sanil Shetty lifts boys' title

SIRSA DEC. 9. Maharashtra's Sanil Shetty overcame pre-tournament favourite L. Sachin of the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) Academy in straight games and won the boys' title at the National Sub-junior table tennis championship here on Monday.

Showing good placement and command over forehand smashes, Sanil outclassed Sachin 11-3, 12-10, 11-5, 11-4, and won the title at the 64th edition of the championship.

Bengal paddlers had to settle for two of the four titles, despite making it to the three finals. In the Cadet boys section, Pritim Bose of Bengal upset Souvik Kar, also of Bengal, 8-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-8, 11-9. Soumi Mondal gave Bengal the second title, winning the Sub-junior girls trophy. She defeated Delhi's Neha Aggarwal 11-9, 4-11, 11-8, 13-11, 11-9.

The Cadet girls title was won by Pondicherry's G. Susan Magi, who defeated Bengal's Shreya Ghosh, 11-9, 4-11, 11-5, 11-8, 9-11, 11-4.
