At a press conference here today, the College principal, G. Henry, and the general convener of the jubilee celebrations, Lawrence Michael, said the Chief Minister would also lay the foundation stone for the Golden Jubilee Memorial Building of the college. The building would primarily function as a career guidance centre. The jubilee celebrations began with a concelebrated high mass on September 5, 2000, with the then Kollam Bishop, Joseph G. Fernandes, as the chief celebrant. The celebrations were formally inaugurated the next day by the former Governor, Sukhdev Singh Kang. An all-India exhibition was the highlight of the celebrations. It was inaugurated at the Cantonment Maidan here by the Union Minister, O. Rajagopal, on April 6, 2001. As part of the jubilee celebrations, various national-level seminars on the new trends on social and scientific subjects were organised. A seminar on globalisation was inaugurated by the former Union Finance Minister, Manmohan Singh, on October 20, 2001. Sixteen economists from the various universities in the country attended the seminar. Seminars on psychology, journalism, polymer chemistry, biotechnology and literature were also organised. As part of the celebrations, the various departments, the library and office of the college would be linked though a computer network. The programme is being implemented with aid from the Local Area Development fund of N.K. Premachandran, MP.
