Kerala
By Our Staff Reporter
Inaugurating a seminar on ``Challenges faced by modern Kerala'', organised by the district unit of the Kerala NGO Union, Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan, said that the present Yogam leadership was straying from the teachings of Sree Narayana Guru. While the previous leaders of the Yogam had engaged themselves in fighting for the cause of genuine social justice, the present leadership was converting the Yogam into a platform for spreading casteism. The irony was that even the Kerala psyche which had been carved out by social reformists like Sree Narayana Guru was being systematically demolished by the very same institutions founded by the Guru. For the purpose, the Yogam leadership even went to the extent of deliberately distorting the teachings of the Guru, he alleged. Stating that the time has come for seriously countering the same, Mr. Vijayan called upon the ``true followers'' of Sree Narayana Guru to lead a resistance movement against the Yogam leadership. He, meanwhile, called upon the State employees to ensure that they work more towards improving efficiency. ``The recent raids on Government offices are a shame on the employees,'' Mr. Vijayan said. In a tone which appeared that he even endorsed the raids, Mr. Vijayan called upon the Government employees to evolve a new work culture. The bane of red tapism had to end, he said. The CPI(M) leader also said that his party was not against the Government availing loans from any organisation. However, it was the conditions imposed for availing the loans which the CPI(M) was opposing.
