Speaker calls on Karunakaran

By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM DEC. 10. The Kerala Assembly Speaker, Vakkom. B. Purushothaman, called on the veteran Congress leader, K. Karunakaran, today. The meeting lasted more than 30 minutes.

This is the first time that Mr. Purushothaman is calling on Mr. Karunakaran after he became the Speaker. Officially, the meeting had been termed as a courtesy call, but, according to political sources, it assumes significance in the context of Mr. Karunakaran's view that the State is in for a lot of political changes after December 12, at the conclusion of the Gujarat election.

The Chief Minister, A.K. Antony's imminent visit to New Delhi increases the importance of the meeting.

He is slated to be in Delhi from December 14, when he is expected to meet and hold discussions with the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi. Mr. Antony will be returning only after attending the NDC meeting convened by the Prime Minister on December 21.

The State leadership camp of the KPCC is being held on December 28 and 29
