Warangal Cong. meet not to discuss `ticket' issue

By Our Correspondent

MAHABUBNABAR DEC. 10. The Warangal meeting scheduled for December 21 by the Congress was meant to bring the backward communities again close to the party who got distanced for various reasons, according to P. Shiva Shankar, AICC, OBC cell chairman.

Mr. Shiva Shankar came here on Tuesday along with AICC Secretary, V. Hanumanth Rao, PCC OBC cell chairman, M. Mukesh, CWC member, Sarojini Pulla Reddy, and the PCC general secretary, Mallu Ravi to participate in a preparatory meeting of the Warangal meeting.

Later addressing a press conference, Mr. Shiva Shankar made it clear in a reply to a question that the Warangal meeting was not the proper forum to put forth the demand of allocating the lion's share of seats for OBCs in coming Assembly and Parliament elections. However, he said the issue of allocating maximum number of seats of the OBCs would be discussed with the party high command at the time of selection of candidates for next elections.

Asked whether they would demand the party ticket to OBCs basing on their population, Mr. Shiva Shankar said, "We have no such proposal with us.'' In a reply to a question that whether they would propose an OBC or Dalit candidate for the Chief Minister's post in view of the TRS decision to propose a Dalit candidate, he said the high command and elected members would decide the Chief Minister candidate.

Mr. Shiva Shankar said there would be a huge turnout at the Warangal meeting from Mahabubnagar district. The DCC president, S. Jagadeeshwar Reddy, the CLP secretary and Wanaparthy MLA, G. Chinna Reddy, the Shadnagar MLA, P. Shankar Rao, the Town Congress president, Altaf Hussain, and other party leaders were present.
