At a meeting with officials, he stated that mandal-level teams had already been formed to identify the works like afforestation of barren hills, breached ponds and tanks, dilapidated supply and feeder channels, anicuts, checkdams, percolation tanks, removal of weed from tanks and tamarind plantation under the `Chintato Nischinta.' The teams were directed to inspect the proposed works and report to the district administration. The teams would also identify the villages where no works were taken up under `Neeru-meeru' and the habitations with drinking water scarcity and fluoride problem. The identification works would be taken up in two phases from December 12 to 14 and December 17 to 19. The teams were also told to encourage and enlist farmers for irrigated horticulture. At another meeting, the Collector asked officials to prepare an action plan for total rehabilitation of the physically handicapped. In the first phase the handicapped children were rehabilitated under `Aasara' programme. In the second phase, it had been planned to provide housing, self-help groups, self-employment, pensions, distribution of aides and implements and rectification of disability with the help of surgery for the handicapped in working age. Initially, the total rehabilitation model would be implemented in Kudair, Kalyanadurg, Bathalapalli, B.K.Samudram, Kadiri and Kanaganapalli mandals. The Collector stated that it was planned to construct 600 special houses for the handicapped in the selected mandals by March-end. About 300 SHGs had already been formed for the handicapped under DRDA and Velugu programmes, he said. The Director (handicapped welfare) of RDT, Dasharath, informed the meeting that they had formed 965 SHGs for the physically handicapped in 1,100 villages. The Joint Collector, C. Parthasarathi, the Project Director of DDP, C. Suvarna, the Project Director of DRDA, S. Anandkumar, the Project Director of Velugu, Venugopala Rao, the Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad, Bharat Reddy, the Assistant Director of handicapped welfare, Kurmadas, and others participated.
