Govt. drops plan to make statement on Anees' arrest

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI DEC.10. The Government today dropped its plan to make a statement in Parliament on the arrest of Anees Ibrahim Kaskar, brother of the underworld don, Dawood Ibrahim, wanted in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case.

The Minister of State for Home, I.D. Swami, was scheduled to make a statement on the subject.

In the Lok Sabha, the Speaker, Manohar Joshi, announced that the Minister had sought time as he needed more information, while in the Rajya Sabha, the Deputy Chairperson, Najma Heptullah, said the Minister would not be making a statement on the arrest.

Anees was arrested by the authorities in Dubai last week and it was made public here on Monday.

The Lok Sabha would discuss the security situation in the country tomorrow. The Opposition had earlier demanded a debate and time was allocated for it accordingly.
