Over a thousand practitioners of indigenous as well as modern system of medicine, environmentalists and others are expected to attend the convention, according to the Minister for Health and Family Welfare, and Information, Kagodu Thimmappa who hails from the area. Giving details of the convention at a press conference, here Mr.Thimmappa said there were many herbal species in the Malnad area that were used for treating various ailments. It was proposed to document all these so that the method of treatment and the plants themselves were preserved. Already around 3,000 varieties of such plants had been identified and were being grown on a 50-acre plot through the Forest Department, Mr. Thimmappa said. He said subjects that would be discussed at the convention include kayakalpa and vajikarana treatment and patient law and its effects. The Chairman of the Central Council of Indian Medicine, Jayaprakash Narayan, would inaugurate the conference. An exhibition held as part of the convention would be inaugurated by Guruswami, Director, Indian Systems of Medicine.
