The furore started when the TTD management, claiming ownership, had served notices last week on 800 dwellers of the residential-cum-commercial localities of Doddapuram, Nimmakayala street, Reddy & Reddy colony and Bhavani Nagar, all located in the heart of the town, asking the residents to demolish their houses on their own and hand the land over to the TTD. It was not received well by the residents, as they had been living in the area for generations. PCC secretary B.Karunakar Reddy, CPI(M) district secretary K.Murali and Samajwadi party's Kiran Yadav, expressing solidarity with the residents, took part in the agitation. Narayana Reddy of Doddapuram, 79, said he had been living in the locality for the past 65 years and wondered how the TTD could lay claim on his land. Even the Chief Minister, N.Chandrababu Naidu, during his visit to Kuppam last week, was sore over the unpleasant move and assured of all action to get the notices withdrawn. Reacting cautiously, the local TDP leaders kept on saying that the issue would be sorted out soon, without going into the how and when of it.
