Cong. unfazed by exit polls

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI DEC. 13. The Congress appears unfazed, despite the exit polls virtually ruling out their chances in Gujarat. "The people have given us a comfortable majority,'' claimed the party spokesperson, Satrvath Chaturvedi.

The party also drew comfort from the fact that the exit polls had been wide off the mark at the time of the elections in West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal. The Congress leaders were quick to stress the point that given the atmosphere of terror and fear in the State, very few people would have been brave enough to record who they voted for in the State. Its unrealistic to expect them to reveal their mind,'' he said.

Mr. Chaturvedi said the Gujarat elections were quite unlike elections in other States, given the history of violence in the past as well as unabashed attempt to whip up communal passions. "It was not an ordinary election by any standards,'' said Mr. Chaturvedi.
