On Thursday evening, the Government released names of 19 persons appointed as chairmen. But late in the night, the Chief Minister's Secretariat said that the list had been withheld and the appointments stayed. The Chief Minister, S.M.Krishna, on December 7 stayed the appointment of chairpersons of some of the boards and corporations following complaints from his Cabinet colleagues, MPs, and senior party leaders. In Thursday's list, two MLAs, J.Alexander (Bharatinagar), and Anjanamurthy (Nelamangala), were shown as appointed chairmen of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and the SC/ST Commission, respectively. The announcement showed that an SC/ST Commission was being created in the State, fulfilling the demand voiced by some of the SC and ST leaders, including the late T.N.Narasimha Murthy. The State has only the SC and ST Development Corporation. In Thursday's announcement, Bisse Gowda of Kolar was named Chairman of the Karnataka State Small Industries Development Corporation, instead of the Hutti Gold Mines Co. Ltd. Shivanagappa of Raichur was named Chairman of the mining company. There were no changes in the other appointments announced on December 6, which were stayed the next day.
