Ex-Chief Secy. of Punjab dead

CHANDIGARH DEC. 14. One of the last surviving officers of the ICS cadre, Gian Singh Kahlon, a former Chief Secretary of Punjab, died here today after a prolonged illness. He was 88. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.

Born on August 15, 1914, Mr. Kahlon did his graduation from the Government College, Lahore. He belonged to the 1937 batch of the ICS and served as Chief Secretary of Punjab from 1962 to 1967. One of his daughters, Praneet Kaur, is the Member of Parliament from Patiala and is married to Amarinder Singh, the Chief Minister of Punjab, while the other, Geet Inder Kaur, is married to Simranjeet Singh Mann, president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) and MP from Sangrur. Mr. Kahlson's son Himmat Singh works for the U.N.
