S. Suresh Kumar, MLA, said the Government had convened the session to divert the attention of the people from various issues which it had handled in an "irresponsible manner". Listing out the lapses of the Government, he said it had given protection to the stamp paper racketeer Karim Lala, but refused to ensure the safety of the former minister, H. Nagappa, who was left at the mercy of Veerappan. Mr. Kumar said the Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, had likened the brigand to Osama bin Laden. But there were four such elements in his ministry. He said that the December 17 meeting would discuss the Government's inept handling of the drought situation, the future of those who are to be evicted from forest land, the continued attacks on dalits, and the "people's discontentment" over the handling of the Cauvery and the Veerappan issues. A huge rally would be organised on December 26 in Bangalore in which farmers, labourers, and party workers would participate and show their anger against the Government.
