Cricket
The former Sri Lankan cricket captain, who stood by the wizard off-spinner through the `chucking' issue, said, "Being the captain I did whatever I could to help him. He's one of the best bowlers I've played with or against. Thankfully though, in international cricket he was on my side." Asked about Sri Lanka's chances in the coming World Cup in South Africa, Ranatunga, who was in the city to preside over the prize distribution function of the cricket World Cup for the blind, said, "We didn't do well in the recent limited-overs series in South Africa. But I strongly believe that we have a very good side. If we play as a team I think we could do well. It won't be easy though, cause the conditions are different, bounce et al. But considering the talent pool we have, it is not impossible."
