Refuting reports of misunderstandings in the APCC and the CLP over the meeting, Mr. Satyanarayana Rao said: "There is no difference of opinion and we are united to make the meeting a grand success by mobilising public from all places.'' The APCC president, who was here on a private visit, told newsmen that he would be visiting Warangal on Monday to review the progress of the arrangements being made for the meeting along with legislators and other party leaders. Recalling his services for the uplift of the weaker sections in the party, he said that after the former MP, J. Chokka Rao, joined the Janata Party in 1978, it was he who encouraged the SCs and BCs in the district to take top positions in the Karimnagar Congress unit. "I have always encouraged weaker sections in the party. It is not out of convenience but out of commitment that I have encouraged the BC leadership,'' he pointed out. He said the freedom for the country was not earned for the development of upper caste people, but for the 80 per cent of the weaker sections of society. He said the former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi had taken up cause of uplift of the weaker sections of society. Majority of youth from the weaker sections were joining the naxalite fold as they were denied justice, he said and added: "I don't believe in violence. However, the naxalites' philosophy of land to the landless poor is good.'' Asked about Telangana Congress Legislators Forum members organising a meeting in Nalgonda district, Mr. Satyanarayana Rao said as the PCC president, he would not talk on the issue. With regard to the infighting in the Karimnagar district Congress with the rebels organising separate celebrations during the birth anniversaries of Indira Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, the PCC president said: "I am not against the former DCC president, K. Mruthyunjayam, and I encouraged his political career.'' He said Mr. Mruthyunjayam was the Karimnagar DCC president for over seven years and in order to give a chance to the new generation, they appointed the Manthani legislator, D. Sridhar, as DCC president. Assuring the rebel leaders - Mr. Mruthyunjayam, the Karimnagar Municipal Chairman, V. Hanumanth Reddy, the former legislators, G. Mukund Reddy and K. Sayi Reddy, the Ramagundam Municipal Chairman, S. Satyanarayana -- of redressing their grievances by accommodating their leaders in the DCC, he called upon them to sink differences and fight unitedly against the Government. He urged them not to form groups in the party. On his reported call to thrash village secretaries for harassing sarpanches recently in Kurnool, Mr. Satyanarayana Rao said he made that statement out of emotion as the woman sarpanch cried and complained about the harassment by the village secretary. "I felt sorry about the statement,'' he said and warned of protesting against the nodal system which was suppressing the rights of elected local bodies representatives. The DCC president, Sridhar, the PCC general secretary and Indurthi legislator, Bomma Venkateshwar, the Choppadandi MLA, K Satyanarayana Goud, the Karimnagar Municipal Chairman, V. Hanumanth Reddy, and others were present.
