Mani defence ridiculous: Swamy

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI Dec. 14. Describing the statement by the Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam activist, Kolathur Mani, "exonerating" the forest brigand, Veerappan, in the murder of the former Karnataka Minister Nagappa as "ridiculous", the Janata Party president, Subramanian Swamy, called on the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu Governments to give a "fitting reply" to the bandit and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

In a statement here, Dr. Swamy said, "Mani is an associate of Veerappan and is bound to defend him, by shifting the blame on others. This is the modus operandi of the LTTE, which has committed so many murders including that of Rajiv Gandhi, but has pleaded innocence".

Nagappa was killed in "cold blood by a silver bullet, which Veerappan usually uses. Veerappan also chose the Amavasya day (December 4) to carry out the killing — his standard practice. Besides, he conducted a puja to Maha Kali. It is therefore a big wonder why the Karnataka Government has still not released the autopsy or postmortem report".

Dr. Swamy said Veerappan and the LTTE must be given a "fitting reply for this gruesome murder of a political leader, who had the reputation of being upright. For this, the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu Governments must apprehend Veerappan as soon as possible".
