Tamil Nadu
By Our Special Correspondent
``Changing Ministers and reinducting them may be the prerogative of the Chief Minister. But, as the Chief Minister is also a public servant, her political decisions should be an open book'' It was wrong on the part of the Chief Minister to have appointed Mr. Thambi Durai, Education Minister, knowing full well that he was running educational institutions.
Wasteland scheme under fire
The Congress also came down heavily on the AIADMK regime's move to lease out wasteland. The party spokesman, Peter Alphonse, today asked the Government to release details of land to be given on lease and the corporate houses seeking it. In a statement here, he cautioned against the danger of precious land being handed over to the private companies under the label of wasteland development programme. The Government should not unilaterally lease out the land, which belonged to the people without obtaining the views of the local bodies and the public. Expressing fears that Tamil Nadu would be left with no public land in future, Mr. Alphonse asked the Government to clarify whether reports, that industrial houses themselves were being requested to identify the required land, were true.
