Kanyakumari cadres shell-shocked

By J. V. Siva Prasanna Kumar

NAGERCOIL DEC. 14. The swift removal of the Revenue Minister, N. Thalavai Sundaram, left AIADMK members here dazed, as Kanyakumari district will go unrepresented in the Tamil Nadu Cabinet.

The presence of the two Ministers from the district was a morale booster to the party months ago. But after K. P. Rajendra Prasad was stripped of the Fisheries portfolio, the rank and file moved towards Mr. Sundaram for building up the AIADMK image in the district, the party sources told The Hindu here today. Now they are shell-shocked at the sudden sacking of Mr. Sundaram.

Throughout his tenure, Mr. Sundaram kept away from government guest houses in the town and also at Kanyakumari and discouraged the party members from visiting the circuit houses, for fear of bringing a bad name to the party.

Interestingly, the Power Minister, Nainar Nagendran, who was to have addressed an energy conservation week seminar here today did not turn up and most of the AIADMK members abstained.
